We Repair Severely Damaged Teeth with Natural-looking Porcelain Crowns
Santa Rosa Dentistry and Implant Center wants to ensure your smile is always healthy and functional. Do you have tooth damage or decay? Renew your teeth back to full health with restorative treatments Dr. Wayne Sutton and his team provided.
Dental crowns are among the many dental restorations we offer in Santa Rosa, California, and the surrounding locations. They are needed when the damage or decay is too pronounced for a typical filling. Dental crowns are cemented in place, fully enveloping the visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.
Why is a crown needed?
You don’t have to get used to a cracked or decayed tooth or lose it to extraction. A dental crown covers all the surfaces of a tooth and fits like a cap. Dental crowns prevent further tooth damage and restore your compromised tooth to its prime self.
Here are reasons you may need a dental crown.
- To hold a traditional bridge in place
- To cover a dental implant
- To restore a severely decayed or damaged tooth
- To reinforce a root canal-treated tooth
- To restore a tooth when a filling is inadequate
- To make a cosmetic modification to a misshapen or severely discolored tooth
Dr. Sutton has over 25 years of experience in dentistry, during which he has honed the artistic and technical skills needed to design and place crowns that fit comfortably and look natural. Once we restore your tooth with a crown, it will be indistinguishable from other teeth.

How are dental crowns placed?
Enhancing your smile with a dental crown takes 2-3 convenient appointments. The first visit is a consultation where the dentist examines your tooth’s suitability for a crown. We use advanced digital imaging tools to visualize the internal structures of your tooth to establish the extent of damage. Sometimes, you may need a root canal before restoring your tooth with a crown.
If a crown suits you, the dentist will numb your gums with local anesthetics to ensure a painless tooth preparation. Then, we’ll gently remove the damaged portion and reshape the tooth into a strong, sturdy platform for optimum retention. The dentist will digitally scan your tooth and send the images to our partner dental lab to custom-fabricate your crown.
We’ll restore your prepped tooth temporarily as your permanent one is being created. Once the dental lab sends over your crown, you’ll visit us for fitment. We’ll check the fit and appearance of your new restoration and cement it in place. Your crowned tooth functions and looks like your real teeth, if not better!
How do I maintain my new crown?
Our dental crowns are created to last, but like any other restoration, optimal maintenance is vital. Please observe the following tips to keep your crown looking its best.
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily
- Floss your teeth or use a water pick at least once daily
- Wear a mouthguard if you chronically grind your teeth
- Rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash
- Schedule bi-annual dental visits for cleanings and check-ups
- Observe a dental-friendly diet
