We don’t like removing teeth, which is why we offer fillings, dental crowns, and other procedures to save teeth. However, as much as we don’t like them, dental extractions are sometimes necessary. 

Some common reasons for dental extractions include:

• Creating room for orthodontic care
• To treat severely damaged or decayed teeth
• Resolving overly retained baby teeth
• To resolve overcrowding

Dental extractions in our office are a significant decision we don’t take lightly. While preserving your natural teeth is always our top priority, leaving your compromised tooth can cause more harm than good. Afflicted teeth often cause prolonged oral pain and widespread infections. Deciding to undergo a dental extraction is a big step, but with our experienced team, you can feel confident that you’re making the best choice for your long-term oral health.

Your treatment starts by examining your tooth with dental X-rays. The objective is to determine the location and extent of tooth damage to devise the best treatment approach. Our team approaches every extraction with the utmost care and precision, ensuring the procedure is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We use powerful anesthetics and possibly sedation dentistry to achieve pain-free extractions. 

A dental extraction is a procedure that completely removes the tooth and its root from the jawbone. There are two types of dental extractions.

• Simple extractions: We recommend these extractions for teeth that are visible and accessible in the mouth. The dentist uses special tools and skills to loosen your tooth from its socket before pulling it out in one piece.  
• Surgical extractions: These extractions are necessary when your tooth is trapped beneath the gum line because it’s either impacted or the crown is broken. The dentist makes a small incision on the gums and may remove a bit of the underlying bone to access the tooth. Typically, the dentist breaks the tooth into pieces for easier removal. After removing each fragment, the dentist cleans and sutures the surgical wound to begin healing.

Whether it’s a simple or surgical extraction, we’ll give you post-op instructions for a quick recovery. Generally, we’ll give you medications and home remedies to manage pain and prevent infections.
