Treatment planning is crucial for implant success

Dental implants can replace one or multiple missing teeth within the same arch or both arches. Rejuvenating your smile with implants starts with a consultation with Dr. Sutton. In this initial meeting, we dedicate ample time as meticulous planning is essential for a successful implant procedure.

We’ll start with a comprehensive dental exam to inspect your mouth for signs of gum disease, decay, and other issues. We’ll also review your medical history and understand your treatment goals for a personalized experience.

Our team uses dental X-rays and 3D CBCT scans to establish the health of your jawbone and the position of nerves and other bone structures. These details ensure your implants are placed in an optimized position for safety, longevity, and full function.

If you have lost teeth for a long time, your bone cells may resorb in the body, robbing your jawbone of the density required to support an implant. In such cases, we’ll recommend a bone graft to stabilize your bone for implantology. You require about three months of healing after bone grafting to receive an implant, although in some cases, both procedures can be done on the same day.

Step-by-step implant process after planning

Once done with the preliminaries, placing your implant is the easier part. Our expert team uses the steps below to restore your smile.

  • Implant surgery: We’ll surgically place a titanium post at a precise position in the bone and suture the surgical site to start the healing process
  • Healing and fusion: We’ll leave the implant for four to six months to allow it to fuse with the bone through osseointegration
  • Abutment placement: After healing, the dentist will reopen the gums through minor surgery to attach an abutment (metal connector) to the implant
  • Tooth restoration: Finally, we’ll attach a natural-looking crown, denture, or bridge to cover your implant(s). This beautiful restoration will be the visible, functional part of the implant
